RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Research proposals for projects under the CSC are prepared by faculty members in coordination with their Research Program Coordinators. What follows is fund sourcing for the research proposals. This is initiated both by the proponents and the CSC through the Director.
The CSC carries out researches under proposals that are designed by faculty members for projects requested by external agencies (contractual projects). Often, various government institutions as well as private organizations contract the services of the CSC to undertake their research projects. There are those who define the particular data that they wish to generate and CSC handles the formulation of the research design as well as the other activities that follow.
The CSC negotiates with the client agency/organization to identify and determine the terms of reference. In principle, the CSC Board must identify ways by which such initially conceived “outside” researches complement and strengthen on-going research activities that provide the justification for undertaking the research.
Negotiations for research projects with external funding usually start from informal discussions between any UP faculty member and the concerned funding agency. After the informal negotiations, an initial meeting is set between CSC and the funding agency to thresh out ideas and discuss the project objectives and activities. After the initial meeting, information on the proposed project is disseminated to the colleges through the Research Program Coordinators in order to determine if there are interested individuals. These individuals eventually form a team for the said project. |
