This report presents socio-economic and cultural profiles of communities located within the Agno River basin. Information includes these communities’ economic engagements and patterns of resource utilization along the river and a description of their socio-demographic and cultural characteristics. Gaps in socio-economic and cultural data crucial for the Master Planning Project are identified.

Cruz, Gladys, et al. The Socio-Economic and Cultural Functions of the Ifugao Rice Terraces: Final Report. Cordillera Studies Center, 2002.

Discussed in this report are the quantitative values of the non-environmental functions of the Ifugao Rice Terraces, particularly those found in barangay Viewpoint in Banaue and barangay Baguinge in Kiangan, both in Ifugao Province.

The author gives an assessment of the state of higher education in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) using secondary data. Analysis of the data is based on the supply and demand of higher education in CAR.

This report gives an evaluation of the effects of Female Functional Literacy (FFL) in the care and health knowledge, practices and behavior of women FFL-learners in Mt. Province.

Natural Resources Management Program 2 Team. Management Plan of the Ancestral Domain Unit of Fidelisan Ili, Sagada, Mountain Province. Cordillera Studies Center, 2001.

This management plan of the ancestral domain unit (ADMU) of Fidelisan will serve as an independent reference for planning purposes at the barangay- and ili-levels as well as an input into the municipal-level ancestral domain management plan of Sagada.

Prill-Brett, June; Colongon, Arellano, Jr., and Tapang, Bienvenido, Jr. Research Report 1: Perspectives on Resource Management in the Cordillera Region. Cordillera Studies Center, 2001.

Three papers are compiled in this work. The first by Brett discusses the concepts of ancestral domain in the Cordillera Region from indigenous perspectives. In the second paper, Colongon presents key policy issues in implementing a community-based natural resource management program in Sagada, Mt. Province. The third paper traces economic transaction flows in a typical Cordillera village.

The three papers in this report discuss community studies in resource management in Sagada, Mt. Province. Cabalfin presents an analysis of the social arrangements for the management of natural resources in Ankileng, while Cruz discusses the social arrangements in Demang. San Luis explores social relations in the co-management of common property resources in Fidelisan.

Tacloy, John; Parao, Marissa, and Javier, Dymphna. Research Report 3: Natural Resource Assessment. Cordillera Studies Center, 2001.

The three papers compiled in this report present an assessment of the state of natural resources in Sagada, Mt. Province. Tacloy enumerates and discusses forestry practices while Parao gives a biodiversity assessment. Javier reports on an ocular inspection in Ankileng, Sagada and gives proposed assessments of slope failure in the area.

Ganga, Zenaida; Botigan, Yolanda; Colting, Rogelio, and Follosco, Alicia, et al. Research Report 4: Community-Based Technological Interventions. Cordillera Studies center, 2001.

The four papers in this report present and discuss introduced project interventions in natural resource management in three research areas in Sagada, Mt. Province. Ganga searches into a possible method to sustain production of traditional sweet potato in Sagada and considers the rapid multiplication technique (RMT) to “revitalize” local varieties. Botigan explores the benefits of introducing fruit tree planting in existing farming systems in Fidelisan and Ankileng, Sagada. Colting shares primary data on weather condition and soil characteristics gathered in Sagada, which he considers vital in planning for natural resource management. Follosco, et al. reports on community-based interventions in Sagada that were tested to support the sustainable and equitable management of natural resource systems.

Delima, Purificacion. Literacy for Empowerment: The Cordillera Vernacular Language in Primary Education (Final Report). Cordillera Studies Center, 2000.

The author presents the results of the study meant to pilot the use of two Cordillera languages (Kankanaey and Ifugao) as languages of literacy, learning and instruction in the primary grades.

Palaganas, Erlinda. Gender-Sensitive Family Planning and Reproductive Health Project in Northern Luzon: Final Report. Cordillera Studies Center, 2000.

Presented in this report are results of focus group discussions meant to elicit customer (and non-customer) opinions and preferences with respect to gender-sensitive family planning and reproductive health service delivery.

Enkiwe, Leah, et al. Benguet Prehistory and Ethnoarchaeology Project (Final Report). Cordillera Studies Center, 2000.

This report carries results from the four components of the project: 1) identification of archaeological and ethnographic works done in the Cordillera; 2) the equipping of the team of researchers with the knowledge and skills in the conduct of field research; 3) a detailed accounting of the project activities; and 4) an initial familiarization with field techniques in ethno-archaeology and how it supplements or complements the techniques of historical research.

This report describes the beliefs and practices of the people in Paracelis, Mt. Province with regard to acquisition, transmission, prevention cure and control of malaria. A resulting intervention program is also presented.

This report is a documentation of Tuba’s rich history culled from published and unpublished works from the Spanish to the contemporary period. This work traces the migration movements of people, the punitive expeditions into the uplands of Northern Luzon, the participation of the Ibaloys in defending their territory under different regimes and the presentation of current issues.

This manual of herbal medicine is written in Finallig and records medicinal plants found in Barlig. The research encouraged Barlig women to recall, own and be proud of indigenous knowledge and practices on health and records these in their own terms.

This report looks at the experience of the people of Itogon vis-à-vis Benguet Corporation’s open pit mining operations and the growing skepticism about the feasibility of extractive (industrial/corporate) mining.

Eight case studies of women of diverse situations in a farming community in La Trinidad, Benguet are presented in this report. Discussed is the exploration of gender and development issues in an upland agricultural community engaged in both subsistent rice and commercial vegetable production.

This report looks into the study that delved into Ibaloy customary law, particularly on land. Discussion is made on body of rules, usages and practices traditionally observed, accepted and recognized by the Ibaloys in their system of land ownership, land use and modes of settling land disputes.

Presented are results of the study on the Lam-ayan, Buguias community that was meant to address development issues as they emerge in upland communities at various socio-ecological levels of development.

Discussed in this final report is the comparison of the process of agricultural commercialization in five sites, each chosen to represent a community along a continuum from the “mainly” subsistence rice farming to a combination of subsistence rice and cash crop farming to the “mainly” cash cropping community.

Contents of this material are deemed relevant and indispensable inputs to discussions on issues of decentralization as well as in planning and development of the Cordilleras.

This report contains four pieces drawn from a larger research (Issues on Cordillera Autonomy) and presents systematic data available about the attitudes of Cordillera inhabitants towards the issue of regional autonomy. Other authors include June Prill-Brett (who draws from her study of indigenous political institutions); Violeta Adorable (and her study of the barangay as a local-level political institution throughout the Cordillera).

This report presents results of the study that investigated the social and ecological factors that brought about a mix of livelihood engagements in the Happy Hollow community.

This report locates land tenure within a system made up of land as a physical resource, and rules of conduct that govern ownership and use of the physical resource.
