1st Roundtable Discussion on Ethnicity Studies

  • 9 seminal papers presented and critiqued by colleagues

 

  • Increased awareness (among the faculty involved) on the theoretical perspectives and issues on ethnicity
  • Laid the groundwork for eventual configuration or reflection on future thrusts of UP Baguio .
  • Improved the dissertation proposal of a faculty (CSS) and the MA thesis proposal of another faculty (SPEAR)

May 24-25, 2002

2 nd Roundtable discussion on Ethnicity Studies

  • 11 papers were presented by faculty from Social Science, Humanities and SPEAR division
  • Some papers were also presented to international conferences such as IAHA and ICOPHIL
  • Confirmed the interdisciplinarity and multi-disciplinarity of ethnicity studies
  • Challenged the participating faculty to self-interrogate their theoretical frameworks and enhanced their “handle” on their respective researches.

May 5-9, 2004

Research Caravan

  • 6 faculty from various divisions participated
  • Publications of colleges and universities in the Cordillera/Northern Luzon collected and donated to CSC library
  • Reflection papers written by 6 faculty
  • Generated the research problems formulated by individual faculty based on their interests. (Note: these became the bases of the three year program of the ESWG.
  • Provided a keener sense of where to locate different research interests on ethnicity studies in Northern Luzon

“Ethnicity Studies at UP Baguio ”: an exhibit of abstracts, photos and artifacts

 

Co-convened the 3 rd National Conference on Philippine Studies held in Baguio City

  • 56 abstracts (with illustrations) of researches by UP Baguio Faculty were presented;

 

  • Fostered awareness among Philippine scholars and the general public on the researches of UP Baguio Faculty on ethnicity studies

November 18-19, 2004

Symposium on

Revisiting the Fair: A 21 st Century Look at the 1904 St. Louis Fair

  • ___ papers presented, forthcoming publication by UCIDS;

 

  • Provided a venue for new and multiple perspectives on the St. Louis Fair;
  • Increased public awareness on the event (St. Louis Fair), because of the high level of discussions and quality of the papers.

Symposium: Cordillera Dialogues and Discourses on Peace and Development

  • 5 Papers presented by faculty from CSS (forthcoming publication by UNDP)
  • Proceedings
  • Enhanced academic insights on the ethnic dimension of conflict and conflict resolution in the Cordillera;
  • Increased public awareness of the policy studies at UP Baguio with perspectives on ethnicity.
