QUALITY ASSURANCE

UPB Quality Assurance Office’s core mandate is to provide overall guidance and assistance pertaining to quality assurance across all units of UP Baguio. This is in line with the University’s commitment to ensuring that all academic programs, research initiatives, and administrative processes adhere to prevailing international quality standards.
Service and Programs
a. Representation
- The QA Officer functions to represent UP Baguio in its QA memberships,
particularly AUN-QA membership.
b. Communication and Logistics Support
- The QA Office coordinates internal and external communication of stakeholders for matters that concern quality assurance. The QA Office also assists in providing logistics support to programs undergoing EQA.
c. Data Collection and Analysis
- The QA Office collects data from various stakeholders (i.e. faculty, student, and administrative staff data for analysis) to be incorporated in self-assessment reports (SARs).
d. Progress Monitoring
- The QA Office is in-charge of tracking and monitoring the progress of programs lined up for AUN-QA assessments.
e. Technical Support and Training
- The QA Office is in-charge of providing technical support and training to internal stakeholders in utilizing iAADS/iAADS+ and training SAR writers.
f. Survey Conduct
- The QA Office is tasked with responsibility to conduct surveys pertaining to
quality assurance among stakeholders (UP Baguio students, alumni, faculty, and staff)

432nd AUN-QA On-site Program Assessment
From January 14 to 16, 2025, the University of the Philippines Baguio underwent the 432nd ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Programme Assessment, during which the BS Computer Science, BS Physics, MS Mathematics, and Master of Management programs were successfully evaluated.
The AUN-QA Programme Assessment is designed to ensure that academic programs meet international quality standards by fostering excellence in education and promoting global competitiveness among ASEAN universities.
This significant milestone demonstrated UP Baguio’s commitment to delivering a world-class education aligned with these benchmarks. The evaluation results for the four programs are expected to be released in the upcoming months.

Participation in the 3rd External QA Reviewers Training
Asst. Prof. Ma. Rosario Y. Florendo, Asst. Prof. Joseph Andrew A. Carvajal, and Asst. Prof. Rachel P. Pitlongay of the College of Arts and Communication, Asst. Prof. Liezel M. Magtoto, and Asst. Prof. Criselda P. Libatique of College of Science, and Asst. Prof, Sheena Doria-De Vera of the College of Social Sciences represented UP Baguio at the 3rd External QA Reviewers Training held at UP Diliman from November 25-29, 2024. During this event, Dr. Corazon L. Abansi, a faculty member of UP Baguio served as trainor.
QA Committee Meeting
Review of the Master of Management (MM) SAR Draft
On October 14, 2024, the Quality Assurance Committee met at the MM Conference Room in the IM Building to engage in a comprehensive review of the draft Self-Assessment Report (SAR) for the Master of Management (MM) program. The meeting provided a platform for committee members to discuss findings, assess the program’s strengths and areas for improvement, and ensure that the SAR accurately reflects the quality and effectiveness of the MM program. This review is a critical step in the university’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards and promoting continuous improvement within its academic offerings.
BS Physics Local External Quality Assessment (EQA)
On September 23-24, 2024, the BS Physics Program of the Department of Physical Sciences, College of Science, underwent its External Quality Assurance (EQA) Assessment. The evaluation was conducted by former UP Baguio Chancellor Dr. Corazon L. Abansi and current Philippine Science High School System Executive Director Dr. Ronnalee N. Orteza, who served as assessors. Their expertise played a vital role in evaluating the program’s adherence to quality standards and identifying areas for improvement.

On August 12, 2024, the Quality Assurance Committee convened at the Chancellor’s Boardroom to review and present the Physics Self-Assessment Report (SAR) draft. The meeting served as a critical step in the preparation for the upcoming external evaluation, with key stakeholders from the Physics department and quality assurance representatives in attendance. Discussions focused on refining the SAR’s content, ensuring alignment with academic standards, and identifying areas for improvement. The collaborative effort emphasized the university’s commitment to maintaining high standards in its programs and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Quality Assurance Benchmarking at UP Baguio
UP Baguio hosted a quality assurance benchmarking activity with Central Mindanao University (CMU) on August 6, 2024, focusing on the frameworks, terms for reference, and other best practices for the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) program level certification.
The event was welcomed by UP Baguio’s leadership, including Chancellor Joel M. Addawe, Vice Chancellors Alipio T. Garcia and Jerico B. Bacani, and OPA Director Giovanni M. Malapit.
CMU’s QA team, led by Dr. Bienvenido M. Butanas, Jr., engaged with UPB’s Quality Assurance Committee headed by Prof. Rizavel C. Addawe and its members Assoc. Prof. Ronie J. Calugay, Prof. Gilbert R. Peralta, Prof. Roland Hipol, and Assistant Prof. Lee Javellana, among others.
The benchmarking activity led to shared best practices, actionable recommendations, and future collaboration. This collaboration between UP Baguio and CMU is expected to enhance educational standards, strengthen global quality, and establish enduring partnerships.
378th AUN-QA On-site Program Assessment
From March 12 to 14, 2024, the BS Biology Program at the University of the Philippines Baguio participated in the 378th AUN-QA On-site Program Assessment. This makes BS Biology the third undergraduate program from UP Baguio to undergo the rigorous evaluation by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance, a process aimed at benchmarking and improving program standards to meet regional and international expectations.
Participation in the 2nd External QA Reviewers Training
Dr. Leah E. Abayao from the College of Social Sciences (CSS) and Dr. Crismar Patacsil from the College of Science (CS) represented UP Baguio at the 2nd External QA Reviewers Training held at UP Visayas from July 29 to August 2, 2024. During this event, Dr. Corazon L. Abansi and Dr. Santos Jose Dacanay III, both faculty members of UP Baguio, served as trainors.
