The University of the Philippines Baguio SILBI-TBI organized an insightful Pan-adivay session today at the College of Science Audio Visual Room, focusing on the essential aspects of research commercialization and patent development. The event, titled “Bridging Research and Innovation: A Guide to Patent Potential, Incubation, and Commercialization,” was organized through a collaborative effort between the Cordillera Studies Center and the Science Research Center (SRC) of UP Baguio.

Mr. Cenevix G. Manago, Senior Technology Development Management Associate from the UP System’s Technology Transfer and Business Development Office, served as the primary resource speaker. His presentation provided comprehensive coverage of three major areas critical to research development and commercialization.

The first segment of the session focused on Intellectual Property Rights, where Manago detailed the fundamental aspects of IP ownership within academic research. He clarified the protocols and policies governing research ownership, particularly within the UP System, providing researchers with essential knowledge about protecting their innovations.

The discussion then progressed to incubation and commercialization processes, where Manago outlined the systematic approach to developing research innovations into marketable products or services. He shared practical strategies for researchers to evaluate and enhance the commercial potential of their work, emphasizing the importance of market assessment and development planning.

A significant portion of the presentation highlighted the role of the Technology Transfer and Business Development Office of the UP System. Manago explained how the office supports researchers throughout the UP System in managing their intellectual property, from initial patent filing to commercial development.

The session demonstrated UP Baguio’s commitment to advancing research development and innovation. Through the Technology Transfer and Business Development Office’s expertise, researchers gained valuable insights into transforming their academic work into potentially commercial innovations while maintaining proper intellectual property protection
